Green creativity advocated at EarthFest

Creative Campus Initiative strives to promote creativity in every aspect of academic and community life. As a co-sponsor of the 16th Annual Green Week and EarthFest Extravaganza - along with UA's student chapter of the Alabama Environmental Council and the Student Government Associaiton, Creative Campus advocated creative ways to be kind to the Earth.

The main event for the Extravaganza, which took place on UA's quad April 22, 2007, was a recycling art project. During the University's A-Day festivities the previous day, bins were placed at Creative Campus's Maxwell Hall to collect cans and plastic bottles. Then at EarthFest, UA students and community members used the materials to create artwork. The project allowed EarthFest participants to use creativity while stressing the importance of recycling and reducing our consumption.

In addition to the recycled art, EarthFest featured organic cooking exhibits, live music by local bands, kid-friendly activities, and a sale of UA student artwork.

EarthFest 2008

The theme for EarthFest 2008 was "Go Bleen," built on the premise that the earth's surface is more than 70 percent water. While encouraging people to make a concerted effort to lessen their evironmental footprint by going green, Creative Campus and the Alabama Environmental Council asked them to consider the big blue water resources, too.

The annual Earth Fest Extravaganza took place on the UA quad April 20, 2008. Earth-friendly businesses and organizations from the campus and community set up booths that attendees could peruse while enjoying the music of local bands and organic/vegetarian food. The event also featured games and creative activities for kids.
