An Afternoon with Charles & Elizabeth Handy

Creative Campus was honored to host a reception for internationally known authors and artists Charles & Elizabeth Handy on November 19, 2007. Co-sponsored with the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, the invitation-only event featured an exhibition of Elizabeth Handy's work in the gallery at Maxwell Hall.

"Identity and the Different Images of Success" included photographs from Mrs. Handy's recent retrospective exhibition in London. Based on the idea of personal Still Life, the exhibit paired photographs of items that mean the most to certain individuals, families and organizations with portraits of the people whose lives they represent.

Some of Mrs. Handy's Still Lives and accompanying portraits also illlustrate the book The New Philanthropists (Heinemann, 2006), which includes interviews with the subjects by Charles Handy. Mr. Handy gave formal remarks as part of the Creative Campus event.

The reception preceded Charles Handy's Lowder Lecture at the College of Commerce and Business Administration on November 20. A former oil executive and business school professor, Mr. Handy is touted as a world leader in management thinking and has been awarded numerous prizes and honorary doctorates.
